今日からスタートする「Go To」キャンペーンの一環で、世の中に 「Go To Travel」 の言葉が一斉に溢れています。 この英語表現に、違和感があります。 ニュースでこの言葉を聞くたびに、「和製英語にもならないヘンな表現」だと感じてしまうのです。 ストレートに「Go to travel.」と言えば、「旅行に行きなさい」という意味にはなりそうです。 しかし、そもそもこの言い回し自体が不自然な響きです。 第一に、travelは単独で「旅行に行く＝動詞」として機能します。 ＜例文＞ I am planning to travel Europe this summer. （私はこの夏、ヨーロッパを旅行する予定です） My children are traveling China right now. （子どもたちは今、中国を旅行中です） 第二に、travelは「遠方への旅行」「長期旅行」の意
