Vistaにないのは「ユーザーへの信頼」
予測を立てるのは常に難しい。わたしも、予測が数年後に的はずれで終わってしまったことが何度もある。 だが、数年前に立てた予測で、1つ当たりそうなものがある。2005年と2006年のコラムで、わたしは間もなく登場する（当時その予定だった）MicrosoftのVistaに消費者に不利な機能が盛り込まれ、そのせいで一部の人はVistaにアップグレードしたことを後悔するだろうと予測した。 この機能はMicrosoftの「Trusted Computing」構想の下で作られたもので、「PVP-OPM（Protected Video Path-Output Protection Management）」「COPP（Certified Output Protection Protocol）」という名称だ。これら「機能」の主な目的の1つは、ビデオDRM（デジタル権利管理）を、PCハードウェアからPCに接続し
