皆様こんにちは。 この度『知られざる英語の「素顔」』という本を書き、出版させて頂くことになりました。早速多くの方に予約をして頂けたようで、誠にありがとうございます。 目次も何もない状態で、このように予約をして頂けたことは、本当にありがたい限りで、期待してくださっている方がいるんだなと大変嬉しい気持ちでおります。 目次等々はおいおい公開されていくと思いますが、このブログ上で簡単に本の趣旨や動機などを説明させていただければと思います。 ①どういう本か 英語の学習参考書と一般の語学書を兼ねています。主に英語の文法や語法を扱っていますが、取り上げる項目については、これまで学習参考書等で殆ど扱われていない、光を当てられていない、それでいて英語では当たり前のように使われる、そういった項目にこだわりました。大学受験の長文問題に登場した英文を用いて、基本的な学校文法の知識があれば誰でも読めるようにわかりや

国学院大の文法問題で次のような正誤問題が出された。 （１）To his great surprise, it was his brother-in-law (ｱ)who (ｲ)got arrested yesterday for (ｳ)entering an apartment house (ｴ)where was restricted to women’s use. 答えは当然エで、主語が空白になる構造なので関係代名詞のwhichやthatにするのが正しい。 ここでは下線のイの表現に注目しておきたい。 一般的に受け身は＜be PP＞の形で表され、状態の読みと動作の読みのいずれかが成立する。ここでの＜get PP＞はそれとは異なり、動作的な解釈しかない。このようなget受身についていくつかの文献を参考に数回にわたりメモしておく。 まずは概論的な内容として影山（編）（2009）『日英対照 形

受験でも定番の表現にnot only ...but alsoがあるが、次の例はどうか。 （１）Kasparov was not only champion, he was a long way ahead if his closest rivals. （早稲田） 本来的には（文法的には）、二文をつなぐので接続詞のbutがないといけないはずだが、この英文のように、このある種相関的な表現ではこういうbut (also)が抜け落ちている例は意外にも多い。これについて辞書で説明があることはあまりない気がするが（略式ではbut alsoがないことも、という事実を述べているものはある）、CollinsのEnglish Usageにははっきりと次のような説明がある。 （２）When you are linking phrases that begin with a verb, you can omit
本のおススメ 『認知言語学を紡ぐ』（くろしお出版） - 英語の勉強メモ

同志社大学の過去問に次のような英文が出てくる。 （１）Today we live surrounded by an array of ingenious gadgets on which, in the developed world at least, the lives of even moderately well-to-do people are hopelessly dependent. ingeniousは「（人、考えなどが）工夫に富む、巧妙な、独創的な」などの意の形容詞。Cambridgeでは(of a person) very intelligent and skilful, or (of a thing) skilfully made or planned and involving new ideas and methodsと定義されている。非常にわかりやすい。ロングマ

拓殖大の過去問に次のような英文が出てくる。 （１）Having been accepted as a companion, if not a daughter, I settled into an amicable routine with my mother. これは「友好的な、平和的な」の意の形容詞。ロングマンではan amicable agreement, relationship etc is one in which people feel friendly towards each other and do not want to quarrelと説明されている。この説明から分かるように、人についてではなく「人と人の間の関係」や「態度」などについて述べる形容詞となる。叙述用法でも限定用法でも用いられる。 （２）The two parties have reached an am
